该片讲述了贫苦少年少阳一方面在表妹萱萱被坏人金爷抓走后，不惧险恶、不断寻找、克服艰难险阻，后来把萱萱给救出来的事情；另一方面，还讲述了少阳姨妈在遭遇车祸失忆后，少阳玩命挣医疗费，无微不至的关心照顾，最终使她重新恢复了记忆的感人故事。。工藤の長編3作目「遠いところ」は、沖縄の若年層の実態を描いた物語。沖縄の子供の困窮した状況、DV、シングルマザーの様子を追ったルポルタージュに工藤が自身の生い立ちを重ね合わせたことから企画が生まれ、独自に取材を重ね全編沖縄で撮影した。。Lucy Pierce grew up believing she had a normal childhood with a loving and supportive mother, until she discovers old articles about the "Baby Victoria" disappearance - a high-profile abduction case that occurred when she was born.
