An oil company is drilling in a small town and suddenly they face volcanic eruption. This seems a small event at first sight but soon it becomes clear that it is the start of a long chain of eruptions. In the movie we see people rushing to save their lives and gradually it becomes a global phenomena that has ability to enfulf the whole globe。背景是1937年的西班牙内战。来自美国的大学老师罗勃跟白求恩一样到西班牙帮助当地人民抗击法西斯。他在完成炸火车任务后，被派一项新任务：跟自发组成的游击队联手，炸毁峡谷上的铁桥。他认识并爱上了美丽的玛莉亚。玛莉亚是市长的女儿，但父母均被法西斯杀害，玛莉亚也遭侮辱。在共同理想的催化下，他们相爱了，但罗勃却在这场战斗中牺牲。。
