动画版的故事设定在2020年，讲述了某学校中学一年级的男学生们，集体在废弃工厂建立所谓的“解放区”，并发动了针对大人们的“叛乱”后的故事，借此反映了学生学业过重、学校对学生任意进行体罚等种种社会问题。。汤玛斯一家四口搬到了澳洲一个小城镇。父亲是当地驻军军官，母亲怀孕，而最让汤玛斯头疼的是他有一个傻哥哥。由于搬家的缘故，汤玛斯也来到了新的学校，学习做游泳救生员。在这里，他认识美丽的女同学洁姬。洁姬虽然生长在单亲家庭，却生性开朗。在逐渐的接触中汤玛斯与洁姬互相产生了好感，给汤玛斯带来生活的动力。。Dylan attempts to rescue Tyr and Beka by taking the Maru back towards the tunnel, but is forced to abandon it due to a large field of debris being sucked into the tunnel.
